Rezension „Ten Years After“ vom 17.12.02

Ein Konzertausfall der Band „?“ und gute Verbindungen des Rizz-Managements waren dafür verantwortlich, dass die Rock-Legende „Ten Years After“ am letzten Dienstag abends auf der Kleinkunstbühne auftrat. Doch vor dem erwarteten Auftritt der Woodstock-Veteranen kam eine Vor-Band, die diesen Auftritt hervorragend einleitete. „Twin Dragons“ nennen sich die drei Musiker, die allesamt in der Rockszene Europas einen Namen haben. Diese neue Blues-Rockband bot eine breite Skala ihres Könnens, vom Motor-Rock („Mother child“) bis zur Ballade („Feel little“), verinnerlicht und glaubhaft „in passion“ vorgetragen von Nathaniel Peterson, dem Bassisten und Sänger der Band, der schon mit Eric Clapton und Keith Richard auftrat. Hier will man’s erleben, hier sollt Ihr eingestimmt werden, „you and you, over there back, clap your hands!“ Begleitet wurde er von dem neuen Talent „Gregorio“ an den Drums und dem Gitarristen Andrea Braido, der Nummer Eins in Italien, dem King der Gitarre, der Auftritte u.a. mit Eros Ramazotti in seiner Vita vermerken kann.

Vorbereitet im Sound, eingestimmt im Rhythmus des Rocks kamen dann die Altstars der Band „Ten Years After“. Viele „Erlebnis“-Fans waren im Rizz, erinnerten die alten Zeiten, die wieder auflebten. „Ten Years After“ war dabei, damals, beim Woodstock-Festival 1969, dessen Name immer noch das Synonym für eine ganze auf kulturell-politische Erneuerung hoffende Hippiegeneration ist. Man war in die Jahre gekommen: Leo Lyons an der Bass-Gitarre, immer noch aktiv, immer noch den Dialog mit seinen Mitspielern suchend. Auch Ric Lee am Schlagzeug kommt aus dieser Zeit, routiniert und effektvoll, immer noch lebendig in seinen Soloeinlagen. Und da ist noch Chick Churchill am Keyboard aus alter Zeit dabei, immer noch die Basis dieses Band-Sounds bildend. Ausgeschieden ist der Sänger der Woodstock-Ära, für ihn kam Gitarrist und Sänger Joe Gooch in die Band, wahrlich kein Ersatz, auch keine Imitation seines Vorgängers. In der Stimme und im Ausdruck dem Altmeister Alvin Lee zwar verwandt, doch insgesamt lebendiger, ausdrucksstark, souverän in seiner Kommunikation mit dem Publikum.

Anfang des neuen Jahres wird „Ten Years After“ eine neue DVD bzw. CD auf den Markt bringen; doch am Dienstagabend waren die Klassiker gefordert und gebracht. Und das erwartete auch das proppenvoll besetzte Rizz, oder besser: 200 begeisterte Zuhörer „bestanden“ das Rockkonzert, eng gedrängt, mit so viel Platz, um das Bier zu halten und sich rhythmisch zu bewegen. Es war eine stimmungsvolle Jam-Session, eine Keller-Atmosphäre der guten Tradition, zu dem die Klassiker wie „Love like a man“ passten. Erinnerungen kamen auf bei „I woke up this morning“ und „I’m going home“, immer noch sind die Zeiten da, von heute zurück in der Empfindung einer vergangenen Zeit, noch immer die alte Jazz-Seligkeit bis heute, thirty years after. Due to the fact that another band failed to perform and because of the good relations and professional ability of the RIZZ management it has been made possible for the Rock Legend "Ten Years After" to perform on Tuesday evening. Before the Woodstock veterans proceeded to take the stage, an opening band set the mood and the atmosphere for TYA's performance. "Twin Dragons" is what these three musicians call themselves, who all made a name for themselves in Europe's Rock Scene. This new Blues-Rock-Band displayed the whole gamuts of their talents, from Motor-Rock ("Mother child") to ballad ("Feel little"), performed in a spiritualized and convincing manner by Nathaniel Peterson, bass player and singer who played with Eric Clapton and Keith Richard. Let's experience an adventure, let's get ready and all join together „you and you, over there in the back row, clap your hands!“ Accompaning him was the new talent "Gregorio" on the drums and Italy's Number One guitarist Andrea Braido, the King of the Guitar, who can also claim the honor and the prestige with performing together with Eros Ramazotti.

The music of the "Twin Dragons" paved the way and set up a furtle ground that fit right in with the feeling of rock as it should be for these vintage superstars, whose collective talent is still burning as brightly today as it was back then. Many fans at the "Rizz" personally remember the good old days that came to life right before their eyes. „Ten Years After“ was there - at the Woodstock Festival 1969, which is still synonymous for a whole generation of Hippies, hoping for a cultural and political revival. Everybody got older: Leo Lyons on the bass guitar, is still eager and enthusiastic, and always in touch with his fellow band mates as they all feel a common bond. Ric Lee on the drums is an experienced and effective musician, his solos are still vivid. Chick Churchill on the keyboards is still the driving force behind the overall sound of the band. The singer of the Woodstock Era quit the band, the new guitarist, singer and writer of the band is Joe Gooch. He is in no way a replacement or an imitation of his predecessor. Although there are distinct similarities of vocals and facial expressions between Joe and the seasoned guitar master Alvin Lee himself. Joe is by far more lively, more impressive, and overall superior in his communication skills with the audience.

In the beginning of 2003 „Ten Years After“ will release their newly recorded DVD / CD, but on Tuesday evening the classics were required and performed to a sold out excited crowd. The packed "Rizz" exceeded all expectations, there was only enough room to stand in one place and hold your beer in one hand and bop up and down. This was an entertaining Jam-Session, a big club atmosphere keeping in the true tradition that "Ten Years After" have come to be famous for. The classics like "Love like a man", "I woke up this morning“ and "I’m going home“, bring back the memories from yesterday to live again today, thirty years after. Dr. Ingmar Winter
